“Every human has a seed of greatness buried in a gift needed by the world.” – Dr Myles Munroe
My journey to becoming a psychologist and career development practitioner was not linear. I completed a Diploma in Retail Travel and Tourism and after some time spent in this industry I decided to alter my career path to the field of psychology. During my time studying psychology I found myself captivated by working with children and adolescents in various settings. Through these experiences I learned that I had a passion for sharing knowledge and making that knowledge more accessible. I attained my degrees from the University of Johannesburg (UJ):
- Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology – Dissertation title: A phenomenological exploration of happiness among elderly female Chinese South Africans.
- Honours degree in Psychology – Dissertation title: “My Reality”: Discourse Analysis of the Poetry in Pro-ana Websites.
- Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
My journey, thus far, has led me here to living my passion and continually developing a fulfilling career. I also, lecture psychology, sociology and life skills at a college as well as run online courses on the Value ed platform. My experience includes working with groups and individuals who have been afflicted with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) at Headway Gauteng. Engaging in play therapy with children and individual therapy to older individuals from the surrounding informal residences at the Emthonjeni Community Centre in Zandspruit. I worked for a number of years at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) at the Centre for Psychological Services and Career Development (PsyCaD). Here, I worked with young adults and prospective students providing therapy, career guidance, career counselling and assessment services.
I believe that every person is the expert and hero in their life’s journey. My aim is to provide a safe space for you to explore life’s challenges and best hopes for your future in an empathic and non-judgemental manner. I have been trained integratively and incorporate various therapeutic approaches and/or techniques into sessions to meet your needs.
